SIMRAD NSX- SMART LIGHTING
Client:
Navico Group
Year:
2022
Overview
I led the UX vision and design for the smart lighting system in SIMRAD’s NSX marine display. The work focused on making onboard lighting easy and safe to control, primarily when the boat is docked or at anchor, without interfering with navigation.
The Users
Boat owners and operators managing lighting across cabins, cockpit, and deck areas. On larger boats this meant room-based lighting control, while on smaller boats it focused on selected zones. Usage is mainly about comfort and ambience rather than operation during navigation.
My Role
I defined user flows, interaction patterns, and interface concepts as part of an agile, cross-functional team with product owners, developers, testers, and directors. I created wireframes and prototypes and worked closely with stakeholders to align UX, technical constraints, and product goals.
Results
The final design delivered a clear and intuitive lighting control experience that fit naturally into the NSX system. By keeping lighting management separate from navigation workflows, the solution supported onboard comfort without compromising safety.
